What is a highly sensitive person (HSP)?

Definition

High sensitivity is a personality trait in which someone processes stimuli more intensely and deeply. The term Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) comes from the American psychologist Elaine Aron. It is not a disorder, but a trait.

How do you recognise it?

  • Quickly overstimulated by noise, light or crowds.
  • Strongly sensing the mood and emotions of others.
  • Needing more time to recover after a full day.
  • Thinking deeply and noticing a lot.

Rest as a foundation

For highly sensitive people, regular recovery is not a luxury. A gentle, non-confrontational treatment fits well, see Reiki for highly sensitive people.
